What is AgriOS?¶
AgriOS is an open-source agritech platform designed to help agri-SMEs (agricultural small and medium enterprises) manage their operations across production, inventory, sales, purchasing, accounting, and farmer engagement.
Vision¶
A thriving agricultural sector where smallholder farmers and the businesses that work with them have access to digital tools that drive efficiency, transparency, and sustainable growth.
Mission¶
To provide an accessible, open-source digital platform that enables agri-SMEs to:
Manage relationships with thousands of smallholder farmers
Track agricultural production from plot to market
Streamline business operations with integrated tools
Generate data-driven insights for better decision making
Build trust with buyers and lenders through transparent records
The Problem AgriOS Solves¶
Agricultural businesses working with smallholder farmers face significant challenges:
- Fragmented Data
Farmer records, plot information, training attendance, and trade data are often scattered across spreadsheets, paper forms, and disconnected systems.
- Limited Traceability
Buyers and regulators increasingly demand proof of origin, sustainable practices, and compliance with standards like EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation).
- Inefficient Operations
Without integrated systems, staff spend excessive time on manual data entry, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Poor Access to Finance
Lenders struggle to assess the creditworthiness of agri-SMEs due to lack of reliable operational data.
AgriOS addresses these challenges by providing a unified platform built on proven technology, designed specifically for the agricultural sector.
Why Open Source?¶
AgriOS is released under the LGPLv3 license because we believe:
Accessibility: Agricultural organizations shouldn’t face prohibitive licensing costs for essential operational tools.
Transparency: Open source enables scrutiny and trust, particularly important for data-sensitive applications.
Collaboration: The agricultural technology sector benefits when innovations are shared rather than siloed.
Sustainability: Open source reduces vendor lock-in and ensures long-term viability.
